A letter to my Fort Wayne, IN Mayor asking him to leave Bloomberg’s group Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
So I sent the following message to the mayor of Fort Wayne, Indiana:
Dear Mayor Henry,
I was very disappointed to see that you are a member of Mayor Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns group (MAIG). I would think that a mayor like you who represents a constituency that is highly gun friendly would take that into consideration before joining a staunch anti-gun campaign. When you sign up with a group like this as the mayor of Fort Wayne, Indiana, you are making the statement that you are representing the people of Fort Wayne. I am sure that if you were to poll the citizens of Fort Wayne, you will find that the overwhelming majority support the second amendment. I am asking you to represent the best interests of your constituents and reject your membership in MAIG.
As you may or may not be aware owning a gun in America is a right that is guaranteed to individuals by the constitution of the United States of America. It is also a fundamental right that many Americans practice to protect themselves. The right of an individual to protect themselves and their families should not be infringed upon. However, people like Michael Bloomberg think they know what is best for all of us and try to force us to obey his commands.
You should be ashamed that you are intimidated gun owners. Every year over 2,000,000 citizens protect themselves with firearms and by joining MAIG you are making a bold statement that individuals should not be able to protect themselves.
I will only assume that you fell for the sales pitch, and did not check into the group prior to joining. You may not be aware, but Bloomberg’s group is not anti illegal gun, but they are anti gun period. MAIG has not pursued one piece of legislation that goes after illegal guns, or pushed for enforcement of current gun laws. But MAIG has pushed to limit the right of law abiding citizens in many instances. Here are just two examples that stand out.
- They oppose the right of travelers to protect themselves by being against reciprocity laws as decided by the states.
- They also oppose the Tiahrt amendment which protects the privacy of individuals. This amendment was put into place so that wealthy anti gun zealots like Bloomberg can not go after defenseless individuals in pursuing his campaign of lawsuits’ against gun manufacturers. Furthermore MAIG claims that the Tiahrt amendment ties the hands of law enforcement when investigating gun crimes but the Fraternal Order of Police has publically stated that it is in support of the Tiahrt amendment.
You need to ask yourself, if MAIG is so concerned with illegal guns on the street why don’t they spend some of their very large budget to help law enforcement go after criminals. Why don’t they pursue legislation that places harsher penalties on those criminals that posses guns. I think that you will find that they do not do these things because they have an ulterior motive.
Please do what is right for the citizens that you represent and reject you membership in MAIG.
